The board of directors at 3750 is committed to careful stewardship of our building and thoughtful consideration of the needs of the people who make up our community. Our meetings held on the third Tuesday of every month are open to all shareholders who wish to attend. The meetings begin with an open shareholder forum where any and all concerns can be raised and will be discussed.
Our goal is always to hold fair and open proceedings. In the interest of communication and open access the minutes from every board meeting are posted in the mail room.
Tom Allison, President, and his wife Sherry Holland have lived in 8A since May, 1999. Tom recently moved to “of counsel” status at the law firm of Allison, Slutsky & Kennedy, P.C., which he helped found. The firm represents labor organizations, pension funds, and individuals with employment issues.
Tom grew up in Park Ridge and Wilmette, and returned to Chicago after graduating from Princeton University and Yale law school. He has been very active in the community, including serving as a trustee of the Chicago Police Pension Fund and the Illinois State Employees Retirement System. He is a board member of Princeton AlumniCorps, a national alumni organization. This is his first term at 3750.
Jerry Hocker, Board Member, Apartment 10B, has lived at 3750 since 2006 with his life partner of 25 years, Anthony Fortier. Jerry began his volunteer efforts shortly after moving into the building working on the House Committee and Useful Life Task Force. He formed the Infrastructure Committee before his election to the Board in order to deal with the City of Chicago Life Safety Ordinance and other long term building requirements and continues to Chair that committee.
Jerry grew up and was educated in Kansas but has lived most of his adult life in Chicago. He is a recently retired accountant and attorney with 35 years experience principally with Arthur Anderson & Co, Trans Union Corporation and Transamerica Corporation. He enjoys architecture; working out; and genealogy.
John McCarthy, Chair, House Committee, was the president of an 18-unit condo just three blocks down Grace Street before my wife Carol and I left for 27 years in Evanston, where we raised our three sons and nearly razed three homes. An extensive renovation, a down-to-the-studs gut job, and one total rebuild has given me a sense of kinship with those at 3750 forging into the wild, wild world of apartment rehab.
Ten years as a newswriter/producer at Channel Two taught me how to pull the disparate hash of daily events in this big town into something at least vaguely cogent. My work as a writer and producer for nearly a dozen documentaries on A&E, the History Channel, and the National Geographic Channel was a graduate education in how to listen. I try to bring what I’ve learned to my role as Chair of 3750’s House Committee. I moved to 9C two years ago and am serving my first term on the board.
Helen Anderson, Treasurer and Chair, Finance Committee is a Nurse Practitioner with a PhD from UIC in Nursing. I currently work in a clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner and I also teach at Harper College. I have lived and worked around the world: Australia, England, Asia and the U.S. (Houston & Chicago). I have lived at 3750, 5A, with my husband Kim and our daughter for the last six years. We moved to Chicago from London in early 2009.
I am currently the Treasurer and chair of the Finance committee. I was previously on the Board as chair of the House Committee and also of the Pet Committee. In my role on the Board, I hope to continue to create and maintain processes, which demonstrate clear underlying rationale that will enhance life and improve the property.
Claire Heideman, Chair, Communications Committee, has lived at 3750, 14G, for a year and a half after coming from a large building in Old Town that had become primarily a rental building. She grew up in Texas, but has lived in Chicago for 30 years. She values the sense of community and ownership that she has found in our building and wants 3750 to be a great place to live for the current residents as well as preserve the building’s character and infrastructure for the future.
Claire feels that fiduciary responsibility, transparency, and communication are key to maintaining that sense of community and ownership. She would like to provide more opportunities for shareholders to get to know each other and plans to continue to serve on the Applications Committee.
Claire is the executive director of Loyola Physician Partners at Loyola University Health System. Her professional experience in healthcare management and consulting has required budget development and management, working in teams, facilitating meetings – skills she would like to share with 3750.
Bonita Burrell, Board Member, joined Burrell Realty in 2012 and brings an extensive financial and renovation background to the firm. Prior to joining Burrell Realty, Bonita was a Wall Street stock analyst and portfolio manager for 20 years with a number of Wall Street firms. Her last employer was Lord, Abbett & Co. Bonita has an MBA from the The Wharton School and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). Her undergraduate training was as a chemical engineer from Howard University.
She was born and raised in Chicago – primarily in the Hyde Park area . Her mother acquired 14D in 2007; Bonita has been living here since 2013 and has been on the board since 2014.
Bonita oversaw more than $10 million in construction projects as the president of a prominent New York cooperative for more than 14 years. During her time on the board, Bonita led several committees including applications and capital projects. The values in the building rallied 500% from a distressed low point during her tenure on the board. Values have continued up 35% since her departure 5 years ago.
Interior renovation is a passion that led to the completion of several gut renovation projects over the years. She is currently a partner in JBD Capital Partners which does renovation projects for resale in Chicago.
